Dear Skylda,

Congratulations on your first demon kill! I have checked with the Archivist, and this officially means you are doing better than nine tenths of your father's family. Hopefully you will keep up with your success. Your brothers and sisters are coming up with their own schemes, and your "hero" plan is sounding better each day. (Especially after you took Sir Renston out of the equation! That was very clever, darling, and I'm so proud of you. Someday you must tell me how you arranged it!) So please, I'm relying on you to sort out this curse and bring some sanity back to the family. Why, just the other day Beinn declared she's thinking of becoming a paladin!

Your Uncle Thurs passed away last week. The fool was importing dretches from the City of Brass; I asked him why on earth he thought that would work when summoning was against the contract but your cousin Havirt told me I wasn't an Eidur so I should keep my mouth shut. But as you'd expect, right on schedule a messenger devil showed up to let us know that clause 4.C.viii of Appendix II prohibited the use of purchased slaves. Poor fellow, he was quite disappointed that Thurs was already dead. Forty-nine dretches in one room were too much for your uncle's allergies.

Oh, and as I write this I've just had note dropped into my inbox that Havirt is dead. I might have married an incompetent, but I don't need to hire them!

The business is ticking over wonderfully, but I know you'll understand if I don't put any details to paper. Though I will say: thank you for your tip about Brindle, it's been very helpful. There have been rumours that Curto Viniez has been seen up in the Vale. If by any chance you could persuade him never to return south again, it would be fantastic.

Good luck, dear, and hurry home. Your brother Bitlaus tries so very hard, but he simply doesn't have your talent for public relations.

Brother,

Excellent news from you, earlier, with the Orc threat from the north being defeated. Brindol and the surrounding areas is safe for now. We suspect the weapons they are armed with have been made in the Shadowfell, and the Shadar-Kai Witch that you destroyed seems to add weight to this argument. The group you are operating with has been most effective, and should endeavour to track down the supplier(s).

Keep watch for Shadar-Kai and further Shadowfell incursions.

PS: Sword unshattered, so far? You might need to put something else at the base of Mother's statue, as I doubt you are going to draw it in anger. Ever. I told you that it is much more satisfying shooting Orcs in the face!

Prayer to St Sollars

Dear Lord

I beseech you to not look too unfavouably on your humble servant.

My excuse for not being able to set people on the road to salvation is that I have fallen in with a group which insists on heading out into forlorn places uninhabited except by the most hostile of creatures. The vile humanoids refused my entreaties to allow me to wash their feet in preparation for their journeys to enlightenment in every instance. In fact some even took it upon themselves to attack your humble servant and I had no choice but to bash their brains in, purely in self defence of course. I did at least manage to anoint their feet to ease their journeys into the afterlife so all was not totally lost.

Despite our abject failure my colleagues inexpicably seem quite pleased with their performance. They are rather a strange bunch, one is a trainee Eladrin wizard who's idea of fun is to throw herself in front of huge Orcs who promptly cut her to pieces. Another is a tiefling hell bent on killing every demon he can find, so keen is he to hunt them down that he charges ahead of us in order to be the first on the scene. Invariably by the time we catch up he is fighting for his life and if I ever mention that he may like to slow down to let the rest of us keep up he seems to take great offence! I suspect I will be annointing his feet before too long.

I will endeavour to do better in the near future.

A tough streetfight tonight, also a lot of poking around and dealing with the denizens of Overlook. A lot of information to digest and things to think about. I'll be back with the loot.

250 XP each for the violence.

Don't forget your 1000gp reward money less the 8 ep you paid out in bribes to the worst criminals in Overlook. (Do they even still have electrum pieces, or did that go out a while ago?)

The dust that Slider traded with Magic Matt for ended up being Clearsense Powder.

You looted a pair of 100gp earrings (BNWT) and 80gp cash from the Lost Boys, plus a chinese potion of healing.

Another great session. It seems, despite drawing out the battle map, the party was still hoodwinked by the lost boys story. It wasn't until seeing the wizard in the crate that I knew we were being attacked. I also thought we were gonnas at one point as Gary kept rolling crit after crit, where can I get a small blue D20? PS What is BNWT? PPS What is a Chinese potion of healing?

It seems to Gerard that there is a mystery to unravel. Why would someone take the chance of shipping essential weaponry through the centre of the enemy city where there is a danger of it being intercepted? It must be either because they had no choice. Possibly because the suppliers are based in Overlook itself, making the whole war part of some great political infighting in the city, or because the route from the shadowfell only goes through the city. In either case we have the key in our possession, the lead to find Modra and Slider's broom cupboard to investigate.
